Walking trails runs into road block

A shortage of cash means the project that would create a new walking and bike path in Charleston is on hold. The West Side train trestle would become a path for walkers and bikers under the plan, but the total bill for transforming the trestle has come to $20 million counting repairs, and only aout $4 million had been reserved. The city held a finance meeting earlier this week and decided to table the project, and instead will put $700,000 toward the Florida Street Scape Project. That will mean new sidewalks and other improvements. Other funds may go toward Slack Plaza's rehabilitation.
