City Council Votes for Raises for City Officials
A boost in pay will happen for Charleston city leaders. The incoming mayor, council and municipal court judge will all see raises after a divided vote by the Charleston City Council on Monday. The Gazette-Mail reports the bill to increase compensation for council members from $200 to $250 per meeting attended passed with 15 voting for and 10 against. Another bill would increase the incoming mayor’s annual salary from $100,000 to $125,000. The salary for the part-time municipal court judge will go from $35,000 to $40,000 per year. The raises won’t go into effect until January 2019.
