Power Crews Close Street for Infrastructure Work
Appalachian Power is working to make improvements to its infrastructure, and that’s causing inconveniences for drivers in Charleston. Part of Kanawha Blvd. East is closed for six to eight weeks while crews make underground repairs to cables. The Gazette-Mail reports traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction while construction is going on, from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays, and outside of that time, westbound traffic will detour at Brooks Street, with the street only open for local traffic from Brooks Street to McFarland Street. Upgrades to the underground network are costing about $20 million.
