Abandoned Buildings Get Renewed Focus Under New Law
You may see fewer abandoned buildings from now on. A new law gives local areas all over the state extra power to make something new out of dilapadated properties, and Eyewitness News reports Charleston officials think the law may be able to speed up the process. With a warrant, enforcement agencies can inspect properties and buildings that are dilapidated and determine if the building can be salvaged or needs to be demolished, without permission from the property owner. City leaders have made progress with many buildings, and have plans to fix up others, with special focus on Charleston’s West Side.
