Alpha Natural Resources Plans to Sell Mines
Alpha Natural Resources is planning to sell at least 16 shuttered coal mines in four states. Alpha is based in Bristol, Virginia and says in court bankruptcy documents that January 20, 2016 is the target date for bids.
The Register-Herald reports that the mines that will be put up for sale are in West Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee and Illinois, but the company did not specify which mines that would be. They cite “adverse market conditions,” as the reason. Alpha said earlier this month that it plans to idle two mines in Raleigh County by Nov. 30.
