Silver Bridge Disaster to Be Remembered on 50th Anniversary
Friday will mark the 50th anniversary of the Silver Bridge disaster when forty six people died. A ceremony Friday in Point Pleasant is expected to draw several dignitaries, including U.S. Rep. Evan Jenkins, representatives from U.S. Sen. Shelley Moore Capito’s Office and U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin’s; West Virginia Department of Transportation Secretary Tom Smith; and Governor Jim Justice. The remembrance event begins at 11 a.m. on Sixth Street in Point Pleasant, and a special mural rendering of the bridge will be unveiled.
