Logan Co. Woman Pleads Guilty to Tax Fraud
A Logan County woman has pleaded guilty to filing 43 fraudulent federal tax returns. Sixty-four-year-old Maria Martin of Chapmanville admitted that from 2011 through 2013, she claimed tax credits for clients to which they weren’t entitled, according to US Attorney Booth Goodwin. Martin split the ensuing refunds were her clients. Goodwin says Martin has agreed to pay more than $188,000 in restitution to the government. She faces up to three years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Sentencing has been set for Feb. 18.
