House Committee May Shorten Terms of State School Board Members
A state House Committee passed a proposed amendment to the state’s Constitution this week that would allow elections for six of the nine state school board members and shorten their terms from nine years to six years. The amendment would also give more power to the state Legislature instead of leaving it in the hands of the State Board of Education. If two-thirds of both houses of the state Legislature pass the proposed amendment, it would be up to voters in November.
