Funeral Board Needs New Members
The Board of Funeral Service Examiners will be revamped at the state level after a bill failed to pass during the legislative session. The bill would have transferred the board’s duties and powers to the Secretary of State’s Office, but after the bill to transfer power failed, Governor Jim Justice will need to appoint an all-new state Board of Funeral Service Examiners. The Gazette-Mail reports a legislative audit suggested the state should terminate the board and transfer its duties and powers to another agency afyer Putnam County funeral home owner Chad Harding was allowed to maintain his license while being investigated for fraud. Some current board members can be reappointed, but they’ll have to be confirmed.
