Fatal I-77 Accident Under Investigation

Charges are pending the outcome of the investigation into Wednesday’s fatal traffic accident on I-77. The accident Wednesday evening at mile marker 111 on I-77 in the Sissonville area involved a tractor-trailer hauling fruit traveling north, and deputies say it left the road and crossed the grassy median, then hit a car headed southbound. The driver of the car, 20-year old Cody Lynch of Charleston was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger of the car was taken to Charleston Area Medical Center’s General Division in serious condition. Fog on the tractor trailer’s windshield may have been a factor. Decisions about citations and charges will be made after the investigation concludes.
