Voter Turnout is About 26 Percent
The Secretary of State’s Office said about 26 percent of registered voters cast ballots in West Virginia’s primary election. The state has 1.2 million registered voters, and 25.9 percent of them turned out Tuesday to cast 315,000 ballots. West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey won the GOP nomination in a high profile race for US Senate, and will face incumbent Sen. Joe Manchin, who captured the Democratic primary, in November. Charleston had a mayoral and City Council race on the ballot. Former West Virginia tourism commissioner Amy Shuler Goodwin defeated City Councilman Andy Richardson in the Democratic mayoral contest. Goodwin will face JB Akers, an attorney and city clerk, in the fall.
