DEP is Taking Comments on Water Quality Now
The Department of Environmental Protection is taking comments now on water quality rules as it sets limits on pollution that enters the state’s streams and rivers. The rules are reviewed every three years. Among the EPA’s latest recommendations are updates to the human health effects of 94 chemical pollutants, according to the Gazette-Mail. The EPA’s recommendations reflect updated data on body weight, health toxicity values, among other things, and were released in 2015. Changes to the rules are usually consistent with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s water quality criteria. Comments can be submitted to the DEP now, and there’s a public hearing in the Coopers Rock Conference Room at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 10.
