CSX Transportation slapped with over $2,000,000 in fines
CSX Transportation will have to pay over two-million-dollars in a proposed settlement for water pollution violations from a 2015 train derailment and oil spill in Fayette County. Under the proposed settlement, CSX would pay one-point-two-million-dollars to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and one-million-dollars to West Virginia. The CSX train was carrying crude oil when 27 cars derailed and half caught fire and exploded, destroying a home and spilling oil into nearby Armstrong Creek and the Kanawha River.
