Opioid epidemic impacts Child Protective Services
The number of children removed from their parents’ home in Kanawha County is expected to hit 700 by the end of the year. Child Protective Services remove the children after abuse and neglect cases are filed with the Kanawha County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. Officials say the numbers are directly related to the opioid crisis, and the removal of thousands of children from unfit parents will likely impact the state for years to come.
