Public school enrollment is down

West Virginia’s public school enrollment is down by almost five-thousand students this year. School officials attribute the decline to a change in the enrollment cutoff date for pre-kindergarten. Last year state law was changed to set the pre-K deadline for students who turn four before July 1st, instead of September 1st.
