AG Warns of Pay-for-Prayer Scam
West Virginia’s Attorney General is warning the public of pay-for-prayers scam calls. The Attorney General says the caller portrays him or herself as representing the “St. Mary’s Prayer Center Ministry,” and has been known to use robocalls, websites and unsolicited email to exploit the consumer’s desire for prayer and the process usually involves a donation in exchange for prayer. There is no known connection to the city of St. Mary’s in Pleasants County or St. Mary’s Medical Center in Cabell County. Morrisey advises not to answer any unrecognizable phone numbers. Contact the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division at 1-800-368-8808 or visit the Attorney General’s website.
