100 Mile Challenge is Completed in Two Weeks
When Melvin Hartley of Fayetteville decided to take part in the New River Gorge 100 Mile Challenge, which encourages you to hike 100 miles of trails between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31 of this year. Hartley wasted no time, and completed the Challenge in 14 days. Those in the challenge have to do their hiking on trails in the New River Gorge National River or the Bluestone National Scenic River. He’s a 56-year old retired regional planner for the state Department of Environmental Protection’s Abandoned Mine Lands Program, and a retired lieutenant colonel in the West Virginia Air National Guard, and accessed the trail system from Fayetteville City Park near his home.
