Lawmakers Consider Taking Away Greyhound Subsidies
Greyhound racing in the Mountain State is under threat with Senate Bill 641, which would remove subsidies for the greyhound industry. Greyhound trainers said they would be forced to leave the state. There are almost 2 thousand people in West Virginia who raise and train greyhounds for the state’s two casino tracks. Lawmakers said a study conducted last year concluded state subsidies account for nearly 95 percent of racing purses.
