Inpatient Treatment Center Aims to Help Inmates

West Virginia has launched its first inpatient treatment program in a regional jail. As we reported this week, the residential substance abuse treatment unit at the Southwestern Regional Jail in Logan County opened Monday. Many inmates who have been sentenced to corrections custody are housed in regional jails because of prison overcrowding. Executive Director David Farmer of the Regional Jail and Correctional Facility Authority said in a statement that the 28-bed unit will assist inmates with substance abuse addictions on their journey of recovery and rehabilitation as they prepare to return to life outside the correctional setting. The DOC will staff and administer the treatment unit.
