Funeral for teenager
Funeral arrangements have been made for a 14-year-old West Virginia girl missing and presumed dead in last month’s devastating floods. The obituary for Mykala Cheyanne Phillips says the service will take place Sunday afternoon at Bethesda Church in White Sulphur Springs. The obituary says she was excited to start school at Greenbrier East High in the fall. Phillips disappeared June 23 when she slipped from her brother’s grip in raging waters in White Sulphur Springs. Floodwaters had torn her West Virginia home off its foundation. Greenbrier County Sheriff Jan Cahill said the search involved divers, canoes, helicopters, drones and cadaver dogs. Twenty-three people statewide died in the floods. Phillips is one of the 15 who died in Greenbrier County.
