Massey update
Attorneys for the former CEO of Massey Energy have made their case to an appeals court, arguing that Don Blankenship was wrongly sent to prison. Blankenship ran the coal company that owned West Virginia’s Upper Big Branch mine, where an explosion killed 29 men in 2010. He’s serving a one-year sentence after being convicted of conspiracy to willfully violate safety standards. Wednesday’s oral argument focused on whether jury instructions made it too easy for jurors to make that conclusion.
