Aging Population Changes Things for CAMC
Charleston Area Medical Center is seeing more Medicare patients these days, and few patients with commercial policies. The number of Medicare patients is up a percent to about 48 percent, and commercially insured patients dropped from 19 to 18 percent, according to the Charleston Gazette. West Virginia has the second-oldest population in the country, and 20 percent of its population is expected to be over the age of 65 by 2025. That may mean losses for CAMC as more patients change over to Medicare.
