Arizona Elk Make Their Way to West Virginia
Five dozen Arizona elk recently traveled to the Tomblin Wildlife Management Area in a partnership with the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources. Wildlife managers and volunteers used helicopters, trucks and net-loaded guns to collect the animals, which were shipped east in livestock trailers. Elk were native to West Virginia, but have not been seen here in 150 years. The goal of the reintroduction is to increase tourism through hunting.
