Budget update
Facing a possible government shutdown, West Virginia’s Republican-led Senate has approved a budget liable for a veto. Senators voted 18-16 Thursday on a plan without tax increases. It uses $183 million from Rainy Day Fund reserves. The House-approved plan takes $143 million from reserves. The two chambers need to bridge budget differences. Democratic Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin says he’ll only consider using a few million dollars from savings, making his veto likely.
