Coal Shipments

Coal shipments on water is down, just as it is by rail. Third quarter numbers from last year to this year are off by as much as 18-percent at the New Cumberland Locks and Dam, and at Pike Island Locks and Dam. The monthly tonnage report from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers also shows drops at the Robert C. Byrd Locks and Dam south of Point Pleasant, and the Racine Locks and Dam.
