Commerce Dept. Under Scrutiny
The Commerce Department has been in the spotlight for the agency’s handling of the RISE West Virginia program, and Eyewitness News reports there are also questions surrounding commerce and the multi-billion-dollar investment in the state promised by China Energy. The Governor’s General Counsel Brian Abraham said Friday that a private company based in Charleston was too involved in the process. There are questions about a loan guarantee connected to the China Energy Project and whether there may have been conflicts of interest. Commerce Secretary Woody Thrasher tendered his resignation, at the request of Gov. Jim Justice last week.
