Contura and Alpha to Merge

A merger agreement will create a U.S. metallurgical coal platform expected to be the largest supplier in the country. Both companies have affiliated offices and operations in West Virginia. WCHS TV reports Contura Energy Inc. and Alpha Natural Resources have entered into a definitive merger agreement afterthe boards of directors approved. The transaction is expected to close in the third quarter of 2018, subject to Alpha shareholder approval and other conditions being met. The new company will retain the Contura Energy name and be led by Contura’s existing management team.
