Crews Install New Fiber Optic Network
Work to install an underground fiber optic cable network is underway in Charleston. Alpha Technologies is an IT services company based out of Hurricane and they’re doing the work, and their director said the fiber cables allow large amounts of data to be transferred up to 100 times faster than typical broadband speed. Eyewitness News says the fiber is to be able to connect business customers to the data center for cloud services, data storage, disaster recovery and more. The network will run through different parts of Charleston and South Charleston and the project will be completed in about five months.
