Cuts Coming to Boone County Schools
More school cutbacks over budget issues. Boone County Schools are cutting back as the fiscal year wraps up June 30th. The Charleston Gazette-Mail reports to make it through end of this fiscal year, Boone is getting advanced funds from the state and deferring payments owed to companies for items like supplies, and in recent months they’ve voted to close three elementary schools and cut 80 positions. Those changes will reflect in the next fiscal year. The Boone school district expects a revenue drop of about $2.3 million, and $6.9 million less in property tax collections than anticipated, due largely to unexpected coal company bankruptcies.
