Republican Bill Cole and Democrat Jim Justice agree on several issues, but they had plenty to discuss as they faced off in their first debate. Both candidates thought teachers are underpaid, that roads need to be fixed, that higher education cuts are a problem, and that the state’s Internet service needs improvement. The candidates were unclear about how to raise money for roads and other services. Each blamed the other for not having an adequate plan to deal with the state’s budget deficit. The next debate is scheduled for October 11th.
