Deer Season Off to a Record Start

The opening of buck firearms season has tallied up a huge one-day harvest of whitetail deer: more than 20,000. State wildlife officials say Monday’s kill was up 77 percent from last year. The new electronic game-checking database showed that some 2,000 deer an hour were being taken by hunters, according to the Charleston Gazette-Mail.
