Dentist Pleads Guilty to Medicaid Fraud
A Charleston dentist is facing charges for healthcare fraud, and pleaded guilty this week. Antoine Skaff falsely billed West Virginia Medicaid and West Virginia Medicaid Care Organizations for more than $700,000, according to a news release from U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of West Virginia. Eyewitness News says Skaff also entered into a civil settlement with several agencies and agreed to pay $2.2 million, three times the loss suffered by West Virginia Medicaid. The news release said Skaff admitted he fraudulently billed West Virginia Medicaid and Medicaid MCOs for dental procedures that he did not actually perform on Medicaid recipients for more than five years. Skaff faces up to 10 years in federal prison when he is sentenced Nov. 13.
