West Virginians affected by devastating floods last month have until the end of the week to apply for additional aid to buy food. The Department of Health and Human Resources says Sunday is the deadline to apply for Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance. The program applies to residents who lived or worked in Clay, Fayette, Greenbrier, Jackson, Kanawha, Lincoln, Monroe, Nicholas, Pocahontas, Roane, Summers and Webster counties during the June flooding. The assistance helps people who normally don’t qualify for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits. Residents may be eligible due to disaster-related changes, including the inability to draw money from checking or savings accounts, unreimbursed disaster-related expenses or the loss or reduction in income.
