Dissatisfaction Grows, and It May Lead To Takeover of Water System
Charleston and Kanawha County officials are open to a public takeover of the region’s drinking water system. Kanawha County Commission President Kent Carper and Charleston Mayor Danny Jones say they are very dissatisfied with West Virginia American Water Co. But they said they would step aside to let Advocates for a Safe Water System to take to lead in any effort to implement such a change. The Gazette-Mail reports that Carper and Jones discussed the issue Tuesday following a press conference by Advocates for a Safe Water System – a group formed more than a year ago following the January 2014 Elk River chemical spill.
