Family Hunt This Week May Boost Deer Numbers
Two antlerless-deer seasons remain on the calendar — the youth/senior/handicap season today, and the aptly named “family” season scheduled for Dec. 29-31. The three-day October antlerless season produced fewer kills than predicted, and wildlife analysts are hoping to make up for it this week. Mild weather helps. The hunt this week is intended to help those who have moved outside the state continue to hunt in West Virginia, since many of them come back for Christmas. Deer hunting is a holiday tradition for many families.
