Fewer Arrests This Year at WV Football Games

Police and school officials say policies aimed at reducing binge drinking at West Virginia University football games are achieving their goals. Morgantown Police Chief Ed Preston says the elimination of half-time re-entry has been particularly effective in improving crowd behavior. The Dominion Post reports that the policy is intended to limit binge drinking in the parking lot during half time. WVU Police Chief Bob Roberts says the number of arrests at the Stadium decreased from 79 in 2009 to 65 in 2014. WVU began selling beer at games in 2011. Sales aren’t allowed in the fourth quarter of a game, buyers are always carded for their age and typically a two-beer maximum is placed on each purchase.
