Flood clean up
A West Virginia county is spending at least $1 million to clean up after deadly, damaging floods last month. The Charleston Gazette-Mail reports that the Kanawha County Commission is allocating another $500,000 to flood recovery, bringing the total to $1 million. Most will aid in cleaning up debris. The county has moved 14,000 tons of debris from flood-ravaged areas. The additional $500,000 will also help pay contractors for their flood cleanup services. The June 23 floods killed 23 people and ravaged homes, businesses and infrastructure across West Virginia.
