Flooded town rebuilds
Two months after a freak storm flooded homes and killed 23 people in West Virginia, residents in the impoverished town of Rainelle curl up in tents and campers at night while their homes are gutted during the day. Five people in the town of 1,500 died during the June 23 floods. As the town demolishes what’s unsalvageable, Mayor Andrea “Andy” Pendleton says Rainelle has experienced its “Noah’s Ark” moment, and it’s time for a new beginning.
