Freedom Site Sold at Auction

The Freedom Industries site has been sold. Chemicals from the 5-acre site spilled into the Elk River in 2014 and led to the water crisis. The property sold Thursday at an auction to Jim Shafer, who owns Shafer Equipment, LLC. near Clendenin. He won the bid at $375,000. The money from the auction will be used to pay claims in excess of $3,000 from a bankruptcy suit. WCHS TV reported Shafer plans to expand the Freedom Industries location along the Elk River.
