Gov. Justice Announces $100 Million Fix for PEIA
Gov. Jim Justice says he has a permanent fix to the Public Employees Insurance Agency. The governor said Tuesday he’s putting $100 million toward PEIA, and he will propose an additional 5 percent pay raise for teachers and all state workers in next year’s legislative session. Lawmakers would have to pass a bill to make the pay raises happen. This would be in addition to the 5 percent raise that teachers and state workers received earlier this year. On Monday, Justice announced the highest first-quarter surplus in the state’s history, which was $119.9 million.
