Hall Officially Resigns
Sen. Daniel Hall’s resignation is back on. The Wyoming County Republican announced last month that he would resign for a National Rifle Association job, then said later that he would not step down until it’s clear how his replacement will be picked. The Charleston Gazette-Mail reports that Hall submitted his resignation, dated Sunday, to the governor and other state officials. Hall had balked because two state law provisions create confusion about which party would suggest replacements to Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin, since Hall was elected a Democrat but switched parties and would resign Republican. The state Supreme Court likely will decide the issue. Meanwhile, both parties are making plans to select nominees for Hall’s replacement.
