‘Hobo Day’ Criticized
St. Albans High School is drawing criticism from advocates for the homeless for encouraging students to dress as hobos for a day. The school’s “hobo day” was one of five dress-up days leading up to homecoming. Advocates for the homeless tell The Charleston Gazette-Mail that last week’s event degraded homeless people. Principal Jeff Kelley says the event wasn’t intended to make fun of homeless people. He says he thinks students and staff understand the difference between the dress-up day and homelessness.
