Man arrested for passing phony check to buy jewelry

Charleston police arrested a man with a long rap sheet Thursday afternoon. Forty-seven-year-old James Valentine was arrested in Kanawha City and charged with felony fraudulent schemes. He tried to pass a 500-dollar check to buy jewelry at two different jewelry stores. Valentine has a criminal past in California, Nevada, Utah, Florida and New York.
