Minimum Wage Increases
With the change of the calendar came a few more dollars for West Virginia’s lowest-earning workers. On Friday, the state’s minimum wage grew from $8 an hour to $8.75 an hour. The change was included in a 2014 law that initially raised the wage in January 2015 from $7.25 to $8 an hour. Before that, the state minimum wage had not gone up since 2008. The current federal minimum wage is $7.25 an hour, a mark that has not changed since 2009.
