New Bill Addresses What Happens to Drug Settlement Money
State lawmakers are considering a bill that would take drug settlement money and make it available for the state to spend. The bill would require the Attorney General’s Office to transfer money received from lawsuit settlements to the state’s general revenue fund. Attorney General Patrick Morrisey’s office has about $8 million now from recent lawsuit settlements with drug distributors, and under the new law if the balance gets over $4 million the AG’s office would be required to transfer funds. The House Finance Committee has the bill now.
