7-11 Robber Arrested

A clerk at the 7-11 Store in Rand called Kanawha County Sheriff's deputies to report that he'd been robbed at gunpoint early Wednesday. The clerk new the man to be 26-year old Rand resident Gerald Maxwell Jr., and said after other customers left Maxwell pulled out a handgun and demanded the cash in the drawer. Once he got the undisclosed amount of cash he ran. Deputies searched the area but couldn't find him. Deputies were lifting fingerprints and viewing surveillance film when Maxwell returned and was arrested. Captain Sean Crosier tells us he told deputies, ""I saw a couple of you looking for me and you can't hide from the boys in blue."

Man faces charges after being caught with illegal gun

James Daugherty was just 16 years old when he was tried as an adult in a double murder case. He was found not guilty in the murder. Wednesday he was caught with an illegal gun, and WCHS TV reports he's a person of interest in another unsolved murder -John Rogers was found shot to death on railroad tracks last summer. There was a disturbance at the Nitro Walmart Wednesday morning and Dunbar police found a loaded gun in the car under Daughterty's seat. The serial number had been filed off, which police say can be a sign that it is stolen. Daugherty is being held on a $50,000 cash only bond.

JROTC Instructor Charged After Alleged Sexual Encounter

A JROTC instructor has been arrested after allegedly having sex with a female student. The Kanawha County Sheriff's office says Martin Dale Kirby has been charged with sexual abuse by a parent, guardian or custodian. Kirby is an Army Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps instructor at George Washington High School, and he's accused of having a sexual relationship with a female student at the school that started in September 2010.

Company Pays After Sissonville Explosion

NiSource has paid more than $231,000 to reimburse the costs of fighting the fire that broke out in December after a pipeline explosion. The natural gas explosion burned part of Interstate 77 near Sissonville and destroyed 5 homes. There are reports that more than $165,000 from NiSource Inc. will go to the state Division of Highways to pay for repairs to a section of Interstate 77 that was charred in the blast. State and County agencies who responded will also be reimbursed. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the cause of the explosion.

Paramedic Killed on His Way to an Accident

A paramedic from Beckley on his way to an accident Tuesday morning lost his life when the amublance he was riding in hit a tractor trailer. 26-year old Mark Anthony Kinder was in the ambulance that was responding to an accident on Interstate 79 near the South Weston exit in Lewis County around 5am Tuesday when the accident happened. A news release from the Lewis County sheriff's office says the driver of the ambulance and the driver of the tractor trailer were both unhurt.

Burglary Suspect Arrested

Kanawha County Sheriff Deputies have made an arrest after a Saturday burglary on Buff Lick Road. A witness reported seeing a suspect breaking into a neighbor's garage, and deputies found the suspect's vehicle in Clendenin at the Save-A-Lot store. During their investigation the deputies recovered a loaded rifle and other items stolen from the garage and arrested 36-year old James Stephen Myers Jr. of Clay County. Myers was released after a family member posted a $5000 bond.

Putnam Shooting Investigated

Deputies are investigating an early morning shooting in Putnam County. 35-year old Robert Hill Jr. took himself to Thomas Memorial Hospital in South Charleston about 5 a.m. Monday and said he had been shot during a robbery attempt on West Virginia 817 in Putnam County near the Coca Cola plant. He underwent surgery and was questioned by deputies who say they've received conflicting information. The Kanawha Bureau of Investigation has the case now.

Hurricane Police Warn of Burglaries

Hurricane police say a recent string of home invasions have them on alert. Daytime breakins have been reported over the past few weeks in the Lower Coach Road, Kingswood Estates, and Linden Lane areas. Mayor Scott Edwards and Hurricane police have sent the word that the public should be aware of what's been happening and call police immediately if you notice any suspicious activity. Police say the suspect is a male, about 5'9 to six feet tall with light hair and a thin build. If you see anything suspicious, you're urged to call 911.

Two Die in Lincoln County Accident

Alcohol is suspected in a crash that killed two people in Lincoln County early Saturday morning. It happened about 12:30 a.m. Saturday along Route 10 in the West Hamlin area. 33-year old Shaun Terry ran off the road and hit a tractor trailer that was parked on the side of the road at a business. The 22-year old passenger, Tasha Icenhower was prounced dead at the hospital, and state police say Terry ied a few hours later. Troopers say Terry's birthday was Friday.
