Nitro Works on New Ordinance to Fight Drug Problem
Nitro Mayor Dave Casebolt and city leaders have started work on an ordinance to curb the drug problem, and other cities are following suit. If it’s approved by council members in Nitro, after two felony offenses at the same place, the owner of the property would face a $500 fine. Any offenses after that would each come with a fine of $1,000. There have been instances in Nitro with the same person being arrested at the same home more than a dozen times. Huntington is working on a similar ordinance. Mayor Casebolt is hopeful the new law will be able to go into effect before the end of the month. South Charletson and Dunbar are working on similar ordinances.
