New Recycling Deal Starts Monday
Next week a private contractor officially takes over the recycling efforts at Kanawha County's Slack Street center. West Virginia Recycling Services will take over operations of the center from the Kanawha County Solid Waste Authority on Monday, after signing a lease with West Virginia Recycling Services on Dec. 18. The agreement came after several months of debate over what to do about the county recycling program, and the Slack Street facility's state of disrepair. The Charleston Gazette reports the director of the Kanawha County Solid Waste Authority will stay on under the new structure, and two current employees will keep their jobs. Three others will be laid off Friday, but might be rehired at a later date.
