Michels Pipeline Construction Fined

A pipeline construction company that West Virginia regulators say polluted a stream has to pay a fine. Wisconsin-based Michels Pipeline Construction has to pay a $3,800 fine and stop storing mud from gas drilling operations at its site near Lumberton. The Department of Environmental Protection last fall, found the company put drilling mud into an unlined waste pit, and that improper disposal allowed the slurry to run offsite and impact a tributary of Stewart Run. Michels promptly cleaned it up. The DEP is taking comments until March 15 on the consent order.
