Parents Fined for Truancy

The truancy crackdown continues. Ten parents in Kanawha County will have to pay fines and perform community service because their children didn't go to school. Kanawha County Circuit Court Judge Duke Bloom this week fined each parent $211 and placed them on 90 days of probation. The Charleston Daily Mail reports all 10 parents were charged with first-offense truancy after their children had more than five unexcused absences from school. The absences ranged from 10 to 41 days. If their children miss any more school, judge Bloom told them he wouldn't hesitate to send them to jail.
